Philly Loves Lacquer: Holo-day on Broad Collection

*Press Samples
Hi everyone, welcome to Monday.  I won't go into my typical Monday blues but let's just say hopefully the week will go by quickly :)  I have eight very pretty polishes to show you today, so that makes it a little better I think!  I was kindly sent these polishes from Philly Loves Lacquer and this collection is made up of four holographic polishes, three glitter toppers, and one glitter crelly.

One of the things I love about these polishes, besides the polish themselves, is the story behind them.  I'll go into each one when I discuss each polish.  So without further ado, here is the Holo-day on Broad Collection.

Fancy Brigade

Fancy Brigade is a deep teal holographic polish which is based off of the Philadelphia Mummers Parade which features vibrant costumes, music, and pageantry.  Each year has a theme and costumes are judged.  The parade has been celebrated since the 1800's as a way to celebrate the New Year.

This polish is exactly as described, a deep teal holo.  The formula was perfect on this polish, I used two easy coats with topcoat below.  I've never seen a holo like this one, the color is just stunning!

Below is a picture with flash to show off the holo.  Now that we are into fall, we pretty much won't have sun for the next six months!

Star Barn

Star Barn is a polish consisting of gold microflakies, gold holo stars, gold glitter, and white stars in a clear base.  Its inspiration is The Star Barn which is a historic barn listed as a National Historic Landmark.  Originally built in 1872, the stars stood for hope and good fortune for the farm and land.

For Star Barn I used one easy coat over OPI Incognito in Sausalito.  I loved the combination of golds in this polish, it felt so festive.  I had no issues with application, no digging, dragging, or placing of glitter.

Christmas Village

Christmas Village is a deep raspberry holographic polish.  This polish is named for the annual German Christmas Village in the LOVE Park in Philadelphia.  Every year, vendors sell European food and drink, ornaments, and crafts.  I want to go!  :)

This polish is a perfectly raspberry colored polish.  This was the only polish in the collection that I had trouble with.  I found the formula thick and gloopy and was a little tough to apply.  It wasn't impossible though, it ended up self leveling to give a smooth finish.  I used two coats with topcoat below.

UPDATE: Esther, the maker of Philly Loves Lacquer, contacted me regarding the formula of Christmas Village.  She told me that the formula issue was solely related to the blogger samples because they were made in a small batch.  The formula on all regular Christmas Village polishes will be made in larger batches and the formula should be nice just like all the other holos :)

Below is another photo with flash to show off the holo goodness.

Chag Urim Sameach! (Happy Holiday of Lights)

This polish is a representation of Hanukkah and is a stunning mix of blue, white, and silver glitters in a white crelly base.  This polish had all sorts of glitter shapes in it, but my favorite were the shards of glitter, they had so much visual interest.

The formula was great on this polish.  I used three thin coats, with topcoat, for full opacity.  I had no problems with dragging, it applied nice and smooth. Exactly like winter for your nails!

Festivus for the Rest of Us

This polish is named for a well-celebrated parody, which occurs on December 23rd, as a secular holiday that serves as the alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of Christmas.  Festivus for the Rest of Us is a light violet holographic polish with a dark violet flash.

This polish is very pretty and I enjoyed wearing it.  The formula was on the sheer side at first, but built up nicely with three coats.  The consistency of the formula was really good and I used three coats with topcoat below.  You can see a little bit of the dark violet flash on the left sides of the nails.

Meet Me at the Eagle

Meet Me at the Eagle is a glitter topper consisting of shades of green and red in various sizes in a clear base.  This polish was named for the historical annual Christmas light show at Wanamaker's Department Store, now run by Macy's.  The phrase "Meet Me at the Eagle" comes from a 2,500 lb bronze bird statue that came to America during the Louisiana purchase.

For this polish, I used one easy coat over Zoya Josie, and finished with topcoat.  Although this is a traditional color combo, I really loved it and it is unique in my stash.  I will definitely be pulling this one out for a lot of Christmas nail art.  The formula was perfect for this polish, I used one coat with no digging or glitter placement.

River Rink

I want to be at the picture below :)  Doesn't it look so pretty next to the water?  River Rink is a light sky blue holographic polish inspired by the Blue Cross Riverrink located at the Delaware River Waterfront.  Hot chocolate, ice skating, and Christmas lights...yes, please!

This polish had the same formula as Festivus for the Rest of Us.  It was slightly sheer at first but built up nicely with three coats.  I used three coats plus topcoat for the photos below.  This is such a perfectly wintery color!

Snow on Broad Street

Last by not least is my absolute favorite of the collection, Snow on Broad Street.  This polish is a glitter topper with iridescent flakies, iridescent glitters, and white snowflakes in a clear base.  This polish is inspired by glittery snow during the winter on Broad Street.

Ahhh!  This is so stunning!  I mean, snowflake glitters....snowflake glitters!  I used one coat of Snow on Broad Street over Zoya Noot.  I didn't dig for the snowflakes, photos below are one swipe of polish, with topcoat to finish.

This is my first experience with Philly Loves Lacquer and it was a great one!  The polishes are such high quality and I love the inspiration for each and the thought put into each and every polish.  I really can appreciate that!  My favorites from the collection are Fancy Brigade, Star Barn, Chag Urim Sameach!, and Snow on Broad Street.  Now for some specifics on these polishes:
